White Light Night, a new transportation mural and CRANKSGIVING!
It’s beginning to look a lot like it’s-not-even-Thanksgiving-but-we’re-going-to-go-ahead-and-celebrate Christ-mas!
That’s right folks, it’s time to start shopping! Since you did it all online last year, you should get out and enjoy some fresh air and buy from local makers, like me!
I’ll be out at White Light Night with the fabulous Leah Marchand! We will be set up right outside Jed’s Local Poboys, 672 Jefferson Hwy, from 6 to 10 p.m.
I will be selling ceramic garden stakes I made with the assistance of Tina Ufford, and some of my little plant babies! I have collected an assortment of cute planters. Some I purchased, some I upcycled.
Leah Marchand will be selling her Christmas ornaments! She hand paints on oyster shells! They are so beautiful and a real show stopper.
Saturday is another exciting day because it’s the beginning of work on the new transportation mural! It’s going to be located on Highland Road and Bryson Boutte is the artist.
His mural at Legacy on 14th Street is one of my favorite stops during bike tours because it is just that beautiful. CLICK HERE to read the article I wrote for WAFB when he completed that mural last year.
While you’re digging into a helping of my writing, have a side of THIS ARTICLE I wrote for Walls Project about the psychological impacts of transportation. This is a topic I’ll be addressing very soon with Mika on “Do The Thing.”
That’s right, I’m not done with the podcast, we’ve just been on a little break. But we’re coming back swinging with fresh episodes just in time for Thanksgiving. So when your Uncle Crazypants goes off on a tangent, you can go outside and listen to our sweet, sweet voices.
And speaking of Thanksgiving, we need you to come out THIS SUNDAY to CRANKSGIVING! This annual event is put on by Bike Baton Rouge and it’s a food drive benefiting the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.
What is it? Well, it’s a bike ride and scavenger hunt mixed together to make a fun day of excursions throughout the Mid City/Downtown areas.
The meeting location is City Park by the Raising Cane’s Dog Park. The event starts at 9:30 a.m. and the ride will get going at 10 a.m.
If you don’t want to ride, you can just come by and drop off a donation of food or money. Cash is actually better than food. And PLEASE don’t bring the stuff from the back of your pantry that is collecting dust because it looks gross. If you don’t want to eat it, chances are other people don’t want to eat it, either.
Now, because many of you will be out of town next week, we’re going to take the week off from the Downtown East Social Ride. Go have fun with your family and friends! And while you’re with them, make them sign up for this newsletter because it’s pretty dang fabulous, don’t you think ; )
YEAH BIKE!
