Veterans, computer coding, and bikes - oh my!
Y’all, I was on the radio this morning! I was a guest on two shows talking about the Veterans Day ride, which is Thursday, November 11 at the Capitol Park Museum. Come on out!
The BIG reason for doing this ride is because the Walls Project has an awesome opportunity for veterans that’s going unnoticed. Thanks to a grant from the Capital Area United Way, veterans can participate in our Coding Boot Camp free of charge AND get a $1,000 stipend per household.
The money can be used for whatever you want related to the course. That can include the cost of internet, electricity, gas to pay to go to a place where you can use equipment, a new computer, etc. You could buy 1,000 worth of sticky notes and that would be okay, too. I mean, I wouldn’t do it, but YOU could.
The Coding Boot Camp (CBC) is an adult education program that helps people get the career technology skills needed to become part of the online economy. There are three levels and you can finish it all within 8 months. Basically, by this time next year you could have a new career in the tech industry!

Did I mention that I’m taking the class? Yep! I love digital media, obviously, but there’s a lot I do not know. When I complete this course, I’ll be able to have more confidence in my web design skills.
Here’s the thing, we have to sign up veterans before the end of the year to get them this money. The grant will go away if we can’t get people signed up. If you know someone who is interested, make sure that they understand they need to go ahead and jump in and sign up.
Look, I’m going it. You can do it, too.
Can you believe it’s almost Thanksgiving? That means it’s time for the annual Cranksgiving bike ride! That’s happening on Sunday, November 21. Meet at City Park by the Raising Cane's Dog Park at 9:30 a.m. The ride will start at 10 a.m. But get there early enough to register and also chat with me, because I’ll be there volunteering my time.
But before that, we’re going to celebrate the little cold front headed our way with a hot chocolate bike ride this coming Monday! Join us at 6 p.m. at the Electric Depot on Monday, November 15.
YEAH BIKE!
