Spotlight on Brittany Hebert
This group would be nothing without the riders. So, each week I’m going to spotlight a new member, or couple, who regularly attends the ride.
When it came to the first person to spotlight, that was an easy choice. Brittany Hebert is like my right-hand woman. She takes the group photo at the beginning of every ride and she takes pictures during the ride. She typically has them posted to social media before I brush my teeth at the end of the night. I trust her so much, I gave her the password to the DESR Instagram account!
Photography is actually one of Brittany’s many talents. Along with her work as a councilor, she is a professional photographer! She has a great eye AND an even bigger heart.
There are few occasions that will pull Brittany away from the weekly ride, but one of those is her family. She will literally drive for days to spend time with her siblings. I don’t even like to drive to Bluebonnet! She didn’t even miss a ride after she took a spill and had to go to the emergency room.
Without going into the how, Brittany provided my scariest moment early in the history of this ride. I had only done a handful of rides by that point, but I was already seeing a lot of people I had never met before. Word had spread.
In the back of my mind, I was worried about being the “leader.” All I could think was about how I would feel or what would happen if someone got hurt. Then, my worst fear came true. Brittany was hurt and it was bad enough that she had to go to the emergency room. I was terrified for her. Thankfully, she was not seriously injured and she bounced back quickly.
That night, Brittany learned the thing that I learned from riding a bike - community is everything! Everyone surrounded her with love and support and helped her get her bike home, someone rode with her to the hospital and stayed with her, and everyone checked in on her after.
That’s the whole point of this new feature and the questions below. I want you, the reader, to feel that same sense of community that we feel on the bikes. I know not everyone can come on a bike ride with us, but you CAN ALL be part of the DESR family.
DING, DING!
