SPECIAL ride to feature locations connected to the Green Book exhibit
I’m THRILLED to announce that I will lead four rides that focus on the Green Book exhibit, coming to the Capitol Park Museum on August 21, 2021!
All of the rides will be held on a Saturday and will begin at 9 a.m. outside the Capitol Park Museum. The ride will last two hours and will include a bathroom/beverage stop at the Electric Depot. The ride dates are August 21, September 25, October 2, and November 6.
“The Negro Motorist Green Book” is a traveling exhibit from the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Serivce’s (SITES). It is an immersive look at what life was like during mid-century America for the African American middle class. The exhibit features selections from around the country. My ride will compliment the exhibit by taking riders to some of the locations in Baton Rouge that were featured in the Green Book.
When I was first approached about the ride, I was asked how much I wanted to charge for the ride. I’m so honored to be part of this that I couldn’t begin to require a fee. It is free and open to the public. Just show up and let’s roll! However, there’s a registration link below.

The ride is going to cover about 7 miles total. It will not be hard and there will be many stops along the way. Children are welcome, but should be able to go the full distance. Speed is not a problem. Just like all of my rides, this is going to be a ride that goes at the pace of the slowest rider. It’s meant to be a comfortable learning experience, not a workout.
Sure, we could load up a bus and ship people to the locations, but that’s no fun. I love learning from the back of a bike. You get to become immersed in the neighborhood rather than zooming by it. Riding a bike releases endorphins and adrenaline, which are feel-good hormones and serve as a memory sticking agent.

So mark your calendar! I do plan to produce some video and audio from the rides for those of you who cannot attend, or for those of you who do attend and just want to relive the experience.
DING, DING!!
