Welcome to Downtown East Newsletter by me, Samantha Morgan! I am a journalist based out of Baton Rouge, La. The stories you’ll find here are much different from the ones I’ve done in my “professional career.”

Let me start from the beginning.

In 2019, I started a bike ride called the Downtown East Social Ride. I only intended on hosting four rides. Cut to today, and it’s now a twice-weekly event and involves what has become a lifestyle brand.

Every Monday we gather at the Electric Depot and head out by bike to learn something new about the city that surrounds us. It’s a fitting place to begin the rides because that building is as much a symbol of our future now as it was when it was first constructed. 

This newsletter will take the place of the stories I formerly wrote and posted to my website. After each ride, I’ll share the written version of the story, often with extra details I forgot to mention during the ride.
